About my
Woodworking
I consider myself a master woodworker with over 40 years of experience crafting custom, solid-wood furniture.
In 2019, I shifted my focus to the more creative area of segmented woodturnings. Utilizing a diverse selection of both domestic and exotic woods, I create one-of-a-kind pieces that blend the natural beauty of the wood with the precision of geometric design.
My work encompasses both decorative and functional objects, such as vases, bowls, cutting boards, and serving platters.
Each piece showcases exceptional craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for both the qualities and beauty of the wood.
The segmented pieces are crafted from many hundreds to thousands of individually cut wedges of wood. Each wedge is carefully selected and positioned before being glued together to form a cohesive whole.
My designs are influenced by nature, the patterns in nature, contrasts in the wood color and grain, as well as Native American and Greek architectural symbols.
The sheer number of individual elements highlights the labor intensity of my process and dedication to detail.
The resulting forms are then either hand-shaped or turned on a lathe and given a lustrous protective coating by hand.
The final pieces showcase the unique characters of the wood and skillful manipulation to create stunning three-dimensional forms.
